This road trip takes in two of the states in America’s South West and allows you to experience some of the more interesting sights. You will start off by flying into Denver, Colorado for ease and for your first night. You will then pick up your car and head into New Mexico taking in the mystical atmosphere of Taos before indulging in the artistic sights and sounds of the wonderful city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. After the sparse, atmospheric vistas of New Mexico this itinerary has you heading into Texas by way of the interesting towns of Roswell and Marfa- the former known for it’s alien sightings and the latter for its bohemian lifestyle. You will head then to the beautiful Big Bend National Park before your last 3 nights in Austin, Texas. This is the most liberal city in Texas and it’s motto is ‘keep Austin weird’. It’s a haven for live music, bars and interesting, independent boutiques. You will love this interesting twist on the classic American road trip with its mix of fascinating and quirky cities plus stunning vistas.
- Start your trip in the high desert town of Taos in northern New Mexico known for historic adobe buildings and fascinating galleries showcasing stunning art from the region
- You will venture onto Santa Fe, this is America’s highest state capital and is a hotbed for arts and crafts all in a beautiful setting around the traditional plaza in the city centre and numerous adobe landmarks
- After Santa Fe, Roswell makes an interesting pit stop – it is renowned as the site of an alleged UFO crash back in 1947
- Journeying onto Marfa, Texas you will enjoy a night in this quirky artistic hub and soak up the atmosphere behind the saying ‘ tough to get here. Tougher to explain. But once you get here, you get it.’
- We then recommend 2 nights in Big Bend National Park – home to limestone cliffs, ranch ruins and desert wildlife
- You will end with 3 nights in Austin; one of our most favourite cities in USA - eccentric and full of character
