Estancia el Colibri

In the land of gauchos and professional polo players and nestled amongst 420 acres of forest and farmland, Estancia El Colibrí is a charming, hospitable Argentine ranch offering luxurious accommodation, mouth-watering food and the chance to engage in time honoured natural pursuits. The grand, Spanish colonial style property features soaring ceilings, dainty chandeliers and quirky antique décor, set amongst flower meadows and with the Ascochinga mountain range on the horizon.

The Estancia’s nine rooms and suites are all unique and names after special places or important regions of Argentina. Wood-burning fireplaces, deep bathtubs and sumptuous beds promise total comfort, whilst surround sound and media centres will keep you entertained. Hand-picked artwork and ornate tiling adds character to individual rooms, whilst period details hint at rural Argentinean heritage. Suites boast private terraces overlooking the gardens and spacious living rooms.

The Estancia makes the most of its abundant natural environment in every respect, and this particularly comes to the fore at La Table du Colibrí. Vegetables, fruit and herbs are harvested from the garden, whilst much of the dairy, eggs and meat on the menu are sourced from animals bred on the ranch. Delicious grilled llama and prawns are accompanied by fine wines from the ranch’s prestigious wine cellar. Taste wines in the cellar whilst also trying cured meats and speciality cheeses from local towns or linger over a traditional asado after a thrilling day of polo. As for breakfast, the master pastry chef prepares delicious pain au chocolat every morning; don’t miss it!

The Estancia offers a wealth of activities and memorable experiences, from horse riding lessons to cooking lessons. Learn the finer points of polo with distinguished professionals or watch a national tournament with a steaming mug of maté from the comfort of the Club House. Collect eggs, shear sheep and have a chat with the hotel’s two friendly llamas. Getting involved on the farm is encouraged and is an enriching way to spend an afternoon (especially if you get to feast on the fruits of your labours afterwards!). If rest and relaxation is a priority, visit the ranch’s spa or float in the palm tree fringed pool.

1 hour 30 minutes by car from Córdoba Airport.
